Things to do near East View Farm...
Well, where do you start for things to do in Norfolk - you will run out of days before you run out of things to do.
There is something to please everyone. There are too many things to list - both our cottages come fully equipped with
brochures and leaflets for you to sit and browse on your arrival. Here is just a selection for you to get a flavour
of the area, together with a few useful links - but don't forget to come back!
Norwich (about 8 miles away, or 2 stops on the local train)
Visit the wonderful cathedral which is at the heart of this vibrant city, or a short walk away is the
castle - complete with tour of the dungeons. Norwich is a very compact city full of contrasting sights of medieval
cobbled streets and stunning modern architecture like the new Forum. As for shopping - it is in the top ten in the UK.
We have every shopping experience you could wish for - from the famous and colourful traditional market place right in
the centre, full of fresh
fruit, vegetables, fish, flowers and countless other stalls - to the many and ever growing selection of popular high street stores in the Castle Mall and
Chapelfield Shopping Complexes, as well as the unusual specialist shops - it's a shopping experience!!
Try a ride on the open top bus for a great view or the city ghost and horror walk! For further details

Wroxham (about 2 miles away) The heart of the Broadland area. The area surrounding the Broads is great for walking, cycling, bird watching, fishing and lots more. A favourite with many landscape artists - this is the land of 'the big sky', where you will see wonderful sunsets. From shopping in Roys - the biggest village store in the world - to trips on the river with either a hired boat for a day or a guided broads tour - this is just your starting point for exploration!
There are also bikes you can hire locally too - try the very safe 9 mile cycle beside the Bure Valley Railway to Aylsham (although you'll have to go back in the car to pick up the antiques you'll buy!) And Wroxham is a sailing paradise - right in the middle of all the major broads.
What else is there?...
Theatres, Cinemas and Concerts - There is a tremendous selection of excellent entertainment available. From the traditional and special
experience of the old Maddermarket theatre to the wonderful selection of top quality performances available at The Theatre Royal. There are
also top quality cinemas with all the current films showing at the Ster Century in the Castle Mall to the UCI complex at the Riverside. Norfolk is
also an excellent area for concerts - from regular musical visitors at the UEA to the glorious setting of outdoor concerts by the lake at Blickling Hall
on a tranquil summer's evening.
Swimming - Lots of swimming pools available wherever you happen to be (good if the weather turns against you and you need to
entertain the kids!). Locally we have pools the Peninsular and at Helska at Horning. At the Norwich Sports Village there is a toddlers pool, fun
pool with waterslides and a training pool. Nearer the coast at Sheringham there is Splash - with room for swimming and trying out those slides. At
Great Yarmouth the indoor swimming centre also has a toddler pool - and a wave machine for added fun.
Adventure - You name it and we have it. For the junior adventurers there is always Pettitts at Reedham where you can swing, climb, take
rides on a junior funfare and be entertained by clowns. For the bigger "kids" (!) there is the excellent Go Ape at Thetford Forest - where they, and
you, can pretend to be a cross between Tarzan and Robin Hood for the day while older family members can be going on the wonderful walks
through the woods to relax and see the protective measures for the red squirrels taking place. Or take them to Banham Zoo, the Otter Trust at
Earsham or the excellent Sea Life Centre in Great Yarmouth.
Restaurants - So many to choose from in the surrounding area and a large number of them child friendly too! We have restaurants of all
kinds: Thai, Indian, Cantonese, Noodle Bars, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Mexican, Lebanese, and Spanish as well as hundreds of traditional pubs and a Waffle House! We can recommend
ones nearby, ones that serve huge portions, there's even a floating restaurant and one on the top of a car park - you name it and we'll have it!
There are brochures in the cottages to help you choose.
Families - Plenty of things for families. There's lots of space to run around at the cottages themselves but you can also go walking, hire
cycles, go birdspotting, canoeing, sailing and find those wonderful traditional seaside towns and lovely unspoilt beaches with miles of sand. Get them
on the Nelson trail - or if the weather's unkind there is swimming, playbarns, roller skating centre, ten pin bowling, circus and funfair at Yarmouth
and a massive undercover shopping mall for those that need retail therapy!
When the Weather is not so kind - There is still so much to do. There are lots of cinemas in Norwich, ten pin bowling alleys, indoor roller
skating, an indoor circus, visit the fascinating Norwich castle, do a 360 degree tour over Norfolk in the Forum, visit Origins interactive, the Puppet
Theatre - are you tired yet?!
Walking - So many walks in this area (and not too many hills to make your legs ache so they are suitable for all ages and abilities). We
are just a few miles away from the wonderful Weavers Way walks. There are walks alongside the rivers and broads, in the glorious Sheringham
Park (there are a few hills there, but spectacular views too!)
Wroxham Barns - a short walk away from the cottages
and you will find something for everyone. Craftmen's workshops, gift shop, fudge shop, tea-rooms, Junior Farm and
childrens small funfair and playarea.
Beaches -
Norfolk has the best of both worlds, from old fashioned unspoilt and traditional seaside towns such as Cromer and Sheringham (easy stops on the local train or by car), or you can go on boat trips at Morston and see the seals on the sandbanks, go birdwatching at Blakeney Point, or go crabbing with the kids at Walberswick and Southwold. There are huge beaches of unspoilt sand at Wells, Blakeney Point and Holkham too. And if you want a bit more razzamatazz for some of the older children there is the circus and fun fair in Yarmouth with a sandy beach as well - choose what you like!
The Broads - So many ways to see them - canoe hire, solar boat trips, electric boat trips, day cruisers and tour boats.
Wildlife - Pensthorpe has 500 acres of unspoilt nature trails, lakes and waterbirds and the RSPB has wonderful
sites to visit such as Titchwell - or for a closer view of the wildlife there are Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens and Fritton Lake Countryworld.
Museums - Some great museums in Norwich itself but specialist ones like the Rural Life museum at Gressenhall and
the RAF Museum at Neatishead are just a car drive away.
Historic Houses - Blicking Hall is one of many beautiful and historic houses and gardens. The National Trust runs
Blicking Hall where many concerts are held during the summer months. Then there is Felbrigg Hall, Oxburgh Hall and the vast Holkham Hall - not
forgetting of course Sandringham House - although we can't guarantee you'll see the Queen!
Gardens - So many beautiful and peaceful gardens - all so varied in appeal. Hoveton Hall Gardens, Fairhaven
Woodland and Water Garden, Raveningham Gardens and East Ruston gardens.
Railways - For steam fans of all ages there are three to choose from - take a ride with the family on the narrow gauge
Bure Valley Railway from Wroxham to Aylsham, or visit the Barton House Railway in Wroxham (great for budding junior Fat Controllers!) or take a
ride along the coast from Sheringham to Holt on the full size steam engines of the Poppy Line.
For the kids - well if those things haven't amused them so far, then there are special centres for children such as the
Playbarn at Poringland, Pettitts and of course the wonderful Dinosaur Adventure Park (they are going to sleep like tops with all that running around!)
Last but not least...
We can also make your stay as personal as you wish. If you want to do a birthday/anniversary/special surprise for someone
we can arrange for flowers/cake/balloons or whatever you require as long as it is available locally and you give us enough
detail and notice.
If you want to have a special treat (or organise one as a surprise) at any time of the year - you can
book a relaxing Indian Head Massage, Full Body Massage, facial or beauty treatments with our local beautician at
unbelieveably reasonable prices.
