Festivals, Events & Things to Do in Norfolk from July – December 2018
Norfolk has a huge array of festivals, exhibitions, theatres, shows and events to enjoy throughout the year – and plenty of them are not only fabulous for family fun but cater for every age too. You can find events happening anywhere from on the beaches, at one of our marvellous stately homes, dazzling firework displays off the pier or Norwich castle – and aircraft spectaculars through the skies.
Here are a select few we have chosen for you from Summer to Christmas
July 28 – 29
This lovely relaxed event is set in the historic village of Worstead (where the famous Worstead cloth originated) and has been running for more than 50 years. It’s a weekend celebration of traditional country pursuits such as heavy horses and tractors, dog show, barstool games, vintage tractor display, gun dog display, falconry and medieval knights.
July 28 – 29
OLD BUCKENHAM AIR SHOW
An award winning event with fantastic acrobatic aerial displays by all kinds of small aircraft – and the star of the show is always the Spitfire. On the ground there are military displays, classic cars, tank rides, the WWII museum plus funfair and refreshments. It’s a recommended day out.
July 28 – 5 Aug & Aug 11 – 17
SHERINGHAM & CROMER CARNIVALS
Week long events to enjoy in these delightful seaside villages full of traditional fun and games. Get the children involved in the sandcastle competition, beach sports, duck race or talent show. There will be Street races, the Carnival parades, dog agility, stalls, music, funfair and an amazing aerobatic display by the Red Arrows.
Aug 31 – Sept 2 & Sept 15 – 16
STEAM GALA & 1940’S WEEKEND
These are just two of the fun events at the hugely popular North Norfolk Railway in Sheringham. Enjoy the evocative sights, sounds and smells of these huge old giants of the days of steam with resident and visiting locomotives. Then take a step back in time to enjoy the flavour of the 40’s with jitterbug dancing, wartime songs, vintage vehicles, re-enactment groups and even spam sandwiches!
Sept 6 – 9 & 13 – 16
HERITAGE OPEN DAYS
The biggest heritage festival in England and in Norfolk people can discover all kinds of local treasures and try out new experience – all of which are free to explore. There are secret gardens, tower tours, guided walks, children’s activities, musical and theatrical performances, vintage fetes, behind the scenes excursions and lots more. There’s something for everyone.
September 8 – 19
GREAT YARMOUTH MARITIME FESTIVAL
A fantastic free event found on the historic South Quay – which is always a riot of colour with tall ships flying bunting from their masts. There is live shanty folk music, fun street theatre, exhibitions and demonstrations, maritime related crafts – and tall ships to go aboard. Visitors can also try their hand at some traditional maritime skills or enjoy street entertainment. A fun weekend.
October 1 – 31
WALKING & CYCLING FESTIVAL
Walking and cycling are extremely popular in Norfolk and during this month there will be events countywide from the coast to the Broads and beyond providing fantastic opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. There will be walks, talks, family activities and chances to explore our fabulous county by foot or by bike with its tremendous range of trails and paths.
Nov 6 – Dec 23
THURSFORD CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR
Set in the magical surroundings of mechanical organs and fairground carousels, with a cast of 130 professional singers, dancers and musicians – many of whom are West End performers. The 3 hour performance is an extravaganza of singing, dancing, music, comedy and variety celebrating the festive season. This show will have you singing along, enjoying the fantastic Christmas gifts and it is now generally recognised as being the largest show of its kind in the UK.
